  • "Pats try to trademark perfection
  • http://www.bostonherald.com/news/regional/general/view.bg?articleid=1070612&srvc=rss

The New England Patriots have been trying to trademark the terms "19-0" and "19-0 The Perfect Season". This relates back to their football record of 18-0, and if they win the Superbowl, 19-0. (Which they didn't.) Laywers for the team said they wanted to stop the sayings from being used and cashed upon. In retaliation, the New York Giants are also attempting to trademark "18-1". This is not the first time this has happened in sports history.

This relates back to class because it shows the beginning actions of obtaining a trademark. Even though this didn't work out, it helped jinx them into losing their perfect season.

  • "TiVo wins patent ruling against EchoStar, Dish"

TiVo sued EchoStar and Dish over their use of their recording systems, which TiVo says they copied. Following the ruling, EchoStar released that they had a new software that would not copyright TiVo's. TiVo also said that Dish was using their hardware to record other shows while the viewer was watching another. This case also helped TiVo's stock soar.

This relates back to class because it's a typical copyright case of one company copying another.

  • "Kids in the U.S. Continue to Download Music Illegally"

A recent study shows that teens in the US are still downloading illegal music, and that their parents don't monitor what they do online. The study shows that more teens are actually paying for their music using iTunes, but they also use the P2P system Limewire, and the site MySpace to illegally get their music. The study also showed that the teens are actually downloading the pirated files themselves, and not getting help from others.

This relates back to class because it shows that teens are the main source of the illegal file sharing problem, and they are able to figure it out themselves, and not really have to have an adult there to do illegal activities online.
