Writer of the ever-so-popular Harry Potter books, JK Rowling, sued a publishing company in Michigan because they had plans to create a print newsletter of their fansite. There has been an on-going arugement whether or not fansites are protected by fair use, or not. The article says that authors should know what's going on with their works, but Rowling takes it out of control, and sues anyone who has any thing relating to Harry Potter.

This relates back to class because it's a case of fair use, and whether or not a user is covered by it or not.

According to the article, several other applications have tried to do the same thing to help DRM.

This relates back to class because it's discussing Digital Rights Management that was part of the DMCA that we've been discussing.

  • "DoubleTwist is Dancing in Dangerous Legal Territory"

Double Twist is an application that allows users to take songs that they purchased from iTunes, and convert it so that users can use them on other devices. The article says that Apple probably won't do anything about this application, unless it becomes widespread.

This relates back to class because it's an arguement about wheteher or not an application is fair use.
